Our video project 'We are the 1 in 4, and there are many more!'
We hear the term the one in four batted around but what is it?
It has been found that one in every four people will encounter some form of mental health problem in any one year. Many go unspoken about, unobserved or leave people feeling isolated or ashamed. When a quarter of the population are dealing with an issue regarding mental health why is is so hushed? The Taboo around mental health is something that can cause barriers to support; prevent people from accessing professionals, talking to peers, asking for a helping hand. Now is the time to bring about a change to the stigmas!
Ruby Wax posted on the black dog tribe in 2012 a phrase that has lent itself to our campaign 'We are the 1 in 4 And there are Many More'. She went on to say 'we have to join together and make a little noise otherwise the stigma remains with us.'
Can you join with us and say 'I am the 1 in 4'?
Would you share your experiences with us?
Have/are you supporting someone who with mental health issues?
What is this project?
Our project consists of a a series of short videos where people talk about their experiences of mental health. This can either be to camera or otherwise depending on how comfortable people are with talking to camera. The only required shot of an individual participating would be at the end.
The series of videos would be broken down into 'topic' groups for example individuals with depression would be on the same video (would not need to be recorded together)
We would also like people with a physical disability talking about the mental health impacts of any stigmas, or issues related to their disability
We would also like a video of people who have or are supporting someone with a mental health issue.
We understand that this can be a really hard thing to talk about and may contain sensitive issues, we will insure that the participants are happy and involved with all decisions and will see the video before it is made public. Any questions please email us on the address below.
